passed H.R. 2, known as the Moving Forward Act, a $1.5 trillion
infrastructure plan covering not only traditional transportation, but
also schools, housing, drinking water, broadband, and clean energy.

6/19/20 - ATSSA commends the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee on moving the INVEST in America Act out of committee today. The bill, which includes historic funding levels for roadway safety infrastructure projects, moves the highway bill reauthorization process closer to the finish line before the looming Oct. 1 deadline.
ATSSA holding virtual Town Hall to discuss highway funding bill with Rep. Lipinski
6/15/20 - ATSSA will host a live, virtual Town Hall on Tuesday, June 16 on the highway bill recently proposed by House Democrats known as the INVEST in America Act. The Town Hall will feature Rep. Dan Lipinski, a Democrat representing Illinois’ 3rd Congressional District, and ATSSA Vice President of Government Relations Nathan Smith.
ATSSA joins 70 groups in asking Trump to prioritize transportation funding to help economic rebound
5/4/20 - ATSSA joined 70 groups involved in and directly impacted by the nation’s transportation infrastructure in asking President Donald Trump to prioritize funding for the nation’s roads, bridges and public transportation as part of his efforts to jump-start the economy.
ATSSA expands and adapts training to assist members
4/8/20 - With restrictions imposed by the government for social distancing, ATSSA has quickly responded with two new options to enable members to continue meeting their training needs. ATSSA now offers virtual training for the Traffic Control Technician (TCT) and Traffic Control Supervisor (TCS) courses. In addition, the Association launched a new online workplace training curriculum that is offered totally online and covers human resources and workplace safety topics.
ATSSA launches virtual training courses
4/2/20 - In response to government guidelines requesting social distancing, ATSSA is now offering virtual training for two of its classroom courses. Virtual training is now offered for the Traffic Control Technician (TCT) and Traffic Control Supervisor (TCS) courses, with the first one scheduled for April 13. ATSSA has adjusted both courses to meet the needs of individual states.
FCC extends deadline for replies to comments on 5.9 GHz band proposal
3/31/20 - The Federal Communications Commission’s Office of Engineering and Technology granted a 21-day extension of the deadline for submitting replies to comments regarding a proposed rule change regarding the 5.9 GHz band, also commonly referred to as the "safety spectrum." The new deadline of April 27 resulted from the extensive comments submitted and disruptions caused by COVID-19.
ATSSA member survey shows nearly half continuing normal business duties
3/26/20 - An ATSSA survey shows nearly half of its members remained on the job with regular operations after restrictions went into place as a result of COVID-19. Members had the opportunity to respond to the survey between March 18 and 25 and were provided seven options as to how their business or agency was handling operations under the COVID-19 restrictions imposed by the federal and state governments.
ATSSA president urges lieutenant governors to declare roadway industry workers “essential”
3/25/20 - ATSSA President & CEO Stacy Tetschner sent a letter to the nation’s lieutenant governors today, asking them to declare ATSSA members in the category of “essential critical infrastructure workers” as defined by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). “Although ATSSA members fall into the categories outlined by DHS as essential, we urge you and the Governor to explicitly indicate that these industries in your state be deemed essential,” Tetschner wrote.

3/24/20 - ATSSA President & CEO Stacy Tetschner sent a letter to the nation’s governors today asking that the Association’s members be considered “essential critical infrastructure workers” in their respective jurisdictions under the guidelines issued March 19 by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
ATSSA accelerates release of online course for pandemic response and prevention
3/23/20 - In response to the global pandemic, ATSSA’s Training Department is accelerating release of one of its new online courses. The Training Department had been slated to launch a new segment of online training addressing human resources and workplace safety issues later this spring but out of heightened concerns for the health and safety of members amid COVID-19, Vice President of Member Services Donna Clark authorized early release of one course.
Ver-Mac suspends benefit auction amid COVID-19 response
3/23/20 - ATSSA member Ver-Mac has suspended its auction of a portable message sign in light of the coronavirus pandemic currently facing the nation and world. The auction had been scheduled to run through March 27 with proceeds benefitting the American Traffic Safety Services Foundation. Updates will be provided when the auction resumes.
Safer Roads 2020 International Conference postponed
3/19/20 - In light of the global COVID-19 outbreak, and in the best interests of the health and safety of attendees, the Safer Roads 2020 International Conference Steering Committee made the difficult decision to postpone the May 12-14 event. The conference has been rescheduled for November 2020 and will be held in Richmond, Va. Exact dates will be announced shortly.
Legislative Briefing & Fly-In rescheduled
3/18/20 - The Legislative Briefing & Fly-In scheduled for April 22-23 has been postponed to Sept. 9-10, 2020 in light of the global COVID-19 outbreak.
NWZAW still on; kickoff event in Michigan canceled
3/17/20 - National Work Zone Awareness Week (NWZAW) runs April 20-24 and will continue as scheduled. However, Michigan officials have canceled the April 21 kickoff event as a results of precautions being taken in light of COVID-19.

3/17/20 - With COVID-19 impacting businesses across the globe, ATSSA reminds members of its Member Savings Program, which includes assistance in applying for a Small Business Administration loan.
