Virginia Advanced Training

This course addresses the entire process for designing, installing, maintaining, and evaluating temporary traffic control in Virginia work zones. The course includes an introduction to temporary traffic control standards and guidelines, design concepts, and several hands-on exercises. The course information is taken from the Virginia Work Area Protection Manual and the MUTCD.

This course is recommended for traffic engineers, engineers, engineering technicians, consultants, and other individuals responsible for temporary traffic control design and plan approval. This course does not grant authority to individuals to approve design plans.

NOTE: This course is recognized as ATSSA’s TCDS course even though the state mandates a different course title.

RECERTIFICATION: VDOT reexamined its Work Zone Traffic Control Instructor Requirements, and VA instructors who have maintained their certifications for 8 years can now take a recertification exam in lieu of taking the courses over again. Online exams are accepted.
